We love design that ‘form follows function’ using techniques intended for another purpose and then unexpectedly creating a new approach for a different category. Designer Borre Akkersdijk collaborated with Innofa, a textile factory in the Netherlands, producing multi-dimensional quilted fabrics for mattresses and then Akkersdijk envisioned an apparel collection made from the tufted materials.
As progressive design schools are evolving to interdisciplinary curriculums morphing design to be all inclusive, techniques available from companies similar to Innofa should provide unique inspiration for fashion.
We’ve grabbed some screenshots from the video produced by TextielLab embedded below along with an image from Akkersdijk’s collection.
