With only a few days left of the international fashion 2011 fall collections concluding in Paris, another fashion destination is getting ready. March 11, 2011 begins the South by Southwest Interactive festival that has become the digital playground of emerging technologies, such as the debut of Twitter a few years ago. Innovative ideas are also featured at SXSW inviting Blake Mycoskie of TOMS Shoes as a keynote speaker.
Designers may be finding newness crafting silhouettes and surface patterns on the current runways but at The FashionWare SXSW, techno-ateliers are making their fashions smart. From climate aware apparel, LED light embellishments gestured by body movements, to a sonar garment for the visual impaired inspired by bats, fashion is reconsidered directed by the wearer or environment.
The exhibition will take place at the Austin, Texas festival from March 18-19, 2011 in the Austin Convention Center. Reading the Fashioning Tech.com blog today, its founder, Syuzi Pakhchyan writer of “Fashioning Technology: A DIY Intro to Smart Crafting” is teaming up with FashionWare to sponsor and produce the exhibit.
